Storing your Clipper Correctly

Clippers require a good amount of maintenance, so for those of you that don’t clip all year round, we’re sure you are looking forward to hanging up your clippers at the end of the season.

Investing in a quality pair of clippers is important, so why not set some time aside to look after them properly? Before you get around to putting your clippers away until the next season, you can save yourself a lot of time and effort by doing some final maintenance and correctly storing them away. As you may have found out in previous years, there’s nothing worse than finding out your blades are dull, or your clipper is not working as it should after you’ve taken your first stroke of the season!

As the weather is getting ever so slightly warmer – we hope! You might notice more hair coming off on your horses rug, which is usually a sign that you can put away your clippers and allow the hairs to fall out naturally.

Cleaning Your Blades

First of all, you will want to remove your blades from your clipper, brushing off all the hair that remains and spray the blades with blade wash to clean and disinfect. Once spotless, dry thoroughly then oil your blades using Lister Clipper Oil.

Storing your blades

Store your blades in a plastic pouch, such as the blade wallet they are supplied with, or alternatively, you could use an oiled cloth. To keep them dry and orderly, you could invest in a clipper blade box, but a sandwich tub will work just as well.

Be pro-active: if you’ve used your clipper frequently before the end of the season, book your blades to be sharpened, as this will miss the busy period.

Cleaning Your Clipper

Nothing beats a clean clipper, get it looking gleaming again. Check it from top to bottom, brush the clipper head where hair may still linger using your provided clipper brush. To clean the clipper body itself, use a soft cloth to remove any dirt or oil. If you notice any damage to the clipper or wire, we advise having them checked out by a specialist repair agent as this problem will only worsen over time.

Clipper Features

Fortunately for those of you using our Lister clippers and blades, some fantastic features make looking after the clippers a whole lot easier. All Lister Blades incorporate a self-cleaning feature, an innovative feature that allows for any hair to be swept away from the teeth to prevent blockages.
